Ladue alum Antonio Zapiain Luna is a filmmaker, photographer and animator, based in Los Angeles, California. Antonio graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, majoring in Cinema Production. In this episode, Antonio dives deep into his production process of a documentary-style video for an artist's creation, and his collegiate capstone project, an experimental film. Antonio offers valuable advice for young filmmakers and discusses how prepared he felt for film school after his experiences in Ladue's Broadcast Technology program.

Ladue alum Bobby Sutherland is a freelance videographer who owns his own media company, Get Funky Media and works with ESPN, the St. Louis Blues, Cardinals, XFL's Battlehawks and live concerts/ events. In this episode, Bobby shares what his day looks like as the director of the St. Louis Cardinals game day scoreboard operations and game entertainment. Bobby shares his path from an intern with the St. Louis Billiken’s, to working for the football St. Louis Rams and covering many different tech jobs en route to directing. Bobby also offers tremendous advice for young video students.
Ladue alum Erin Wides is a Multimedia Journalist for KTRE 9 in Lufkin, TX. On this episode, Erin talks about her first full-time news reporter job at KTRE and how she is responsible for doing it all...a "one-man band," she said. Erin talks about being persistent in finding stories, shares a behind the scenes look at her day and how she organizes her files, finds stories, and lessons learned from Broadcast Technology classes at Ladue, which she still implements today. 89-year old Lufkin resident works out three times a week to keep independence "The lesson here is about serendipitous stories and how they can be found anywhere. It was Jan. 1st and I had no other ideas except for gyms and New Year's resolutions, but this became way more than that!" Search underway at Neches River for Wells businessman missing since Sunday. "I was on and off of this story that week. A man had gone missing and search and rescue teams were at the campsite day in and day out. It took me two hours to even find the campsite, after driving and hour to get to the general area. The when I got there, half the family wanted us there, half didn't... so everything was shot on a phone! A well-known rodeo clown had preformed many times in our viewing area, but was well known all over the country. Ladue alum Jake Torchin is an independent television and film editor in Los Angeles, CA. Jake has worked on shows such as Viceland's "The Therapist," edited videos for celebrity Will Smith and his company, and has already produced, written, shot, and edited his own short film, "Small Ball." In this episode, Jake talks about his journey after Ladue High School, which led him directly into the media business editing music videos and reality-style docuseries television. Jake offers advice of developing a specific digital expertise, such as editing, and ways to monetize it. Jake also discussed the editing software he uses, his greatest challenges, his greatest achievements, and offered advice for young filmmakers everywhere.

Charlie Marlow is a sports anchor/reporter with FOX2 Sports and KFNS Radio 590 "The Fan" in St. Louis, MO. On this show, Charlie talks about creating sports content during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the ways he's curating and gathering content for his TV reports and social media. Charlie spoke about building relationships with athletes and his process of producing stories for radio and television. Charlie also talked about interviewing Laila Anderson, the amazing young St. Louis girl, who became a major part of the 2019 St. Louis Blues Stanley Cup championship story.

Ladue alum and award winning journalist Ariana Tobin is the Engagement Team Editor for ProPublica, "an independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces investigative journalism with moral force." Ariana discusses covering the coronavirus and the impact on healthcare workers, her investigative work on age discrimination, and her past experience in public radio. Ariana also discusses investigative journalism, vetting crowdsourced information, and she shares in-depth examples to offer context to what ProPublica calls "accountability journalism."
Ladue alum Joe Weil is the originator of Psycho Films in Los Angeles, CA. Joe has worked with rap artists, Drake, Kendrick and P. Diddy. His company professionally produce music videos, commercials, and other video projects for a dynamic client base in LA. Joe also serves as the President of Psycho Films, as well as one of its production company's directors. On this episode, Joe talks about the production process for a music video, from concept to creation, and takes us behind the scenes with a music video he produced for the artist Electric Guest. Joe also shared fantastic stories, memories, and advice from his Ladue High School, USC collegiate, and early professional days.

Ladue alum Samantha Shanker has worked as an assistant to the widely popular comedian, Tina Fey, for the past three years, and is now developing her craft as a TV series writer. While working for Tina, Sam came on-board with Tina's production company during the popular Netflix show, "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" and was a part of the Broadway production of "Mean Girls." On this episode of Media Makers, Sam shares her incredible journey from Kenyon College, to interning for Seth Meyers, and now working for Tina Fey. Sam offers fantastic advice to students on why to take risks, how to create and maintain relationships, knowing your role at each step of the ladder, and being simply being a pleasant person to work with has allowed her to step into unbelievable opportunities.

Al Tompkins is one of America's most requested broadcast journalism, multimedia teachers, and coaches, so I'm thrilled to bring his expertise to students and educators everywhere. Al discusses the ethics behind any story we consume in the news, especially during the coronavirus pandemic and shares his insight on a story circulating through all of media, recorded from inside a New York hospital. In addition, Al talked about ways high student journalists are using their fact-checking skills right now to create videos and inform the public through the Instagram platform @MediaWise. Plus, Al and I talked about a plethora of ways our student journalists can cover stories while we are bound at home during the COVID-19 crisis.

Mike Stewart is the Executive Producer and Director for Big Deal Productions, and on this show of Media Makers, he shares his experiences producing national commercials, including working as a production manager for Super Bowl spots. Mike also said shared his knowledge of internal video departments with Fortune 500 companies as he spoke about his 30+ years of experience working for Anheuser-Busch and Bud Sports. If that weren’t enough, we also discussed his experience working the video scoreboard at Busch Stadium for the St. Louis Cardinals, including the number of people and aspects of the job it takes to successfully produce in-game entertainment for a professional sports team.
